![]() ![]() Mimi PöpelAmsterdam, NetherlandsGerman, English, Dutch I grew up in Germany, spent three years of my life in New Zealand, and now live in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I have a professional background in social work. I used to see myself as a positive and optimistic person who manages to find joy in life in spite of all the things that are wrong, dangerous and threatening in this world - including my own unwanted thoughts and feelings. It was as if I was living on a sunny island surrounded by dark clouds, pirates and sharks, afraid that if I really looked around, that would be the end of my lightheartedness and joy. Through The Work, it has become the sweetest, most exciting adventure to look very closely at what it is that frightens, angers or upsets me; to meet reality head-on, rather than to hide away from it. The Work to me continues to be a precious journey of opening to life the way it is, rather than hopelessly trying to make it look the way I think it should look. On this journey I continue to discover joy, laughter and gratitude wherever I was expecting something scary and dreadful to be. It is a humbling experience, a homecoming, a falling into stillness, vibrant joy, peace, delight, gratitude, freedom, openness and love. Since I started doing The Work of Byron Katie in 2005, my experience of my life, people around me, the world, and myself has shifted in the most radical, yet sweet and gentle way, and this experience continues to unfold. The world is turning into a surprisingly safe, kind, beautiful place to be. Questioning my stressful thoughts started off as a way to deal with fear, pain, anger, and depression in my life. It quickly grew into one of the dearest ways to spend my time - witnessing and experiencing the amazing shifts and realizations when answering the four questions and finding the turnarounds, or when sitting with and facilitating others. I have done The Work on beliefs around my intimate relationships and friendships, my family, body and health issues, sexuality and sexual abuse, gender issues, thoughts of self criticism and self hatred, depression, career and life purpose, money, fear of anger and conflict, non-monogamy and jealousy, competition, thoughts about (cultural) identity and belonging, cross-cultural migration, death and dying, pregnancy and childbirth. Since the very first day I started doing The Work, I have not come across a single issue that I couldn't bring to the Four Questions and Turnaround. If you would like to do The Work with me, I invite you to come with anything that angers, frightens, saddens or upsets you. The space I invite you to is a space of stillness and listening, of kindness, openness and curiosity. Your pain, fear, anger, tears, laughter and joy are equally welcome. The Work is an invitation for all of us to open our mind to our own deepest wisdom, allowing the answers to arise from our hearts. Please send me an email or call me if you would like us to do The Work together. |
