Ending The War on Death

5 November–10 December 2013
Teleclass

“No one knows what death is. Maybe it’s not a something; maybe it’s not even a nothing. It’s the pure unknown, and I love that. We imagine death is a state of being or a state of nothingness, and we frighten ourselves with our own concepts.”
—Byron Katie

What is frightening, saddening, angering or disappointing about death? What is death? What is it specifically that makes death bad? What regrets or guilt are you holding on to? What are you missing? What have you lost? What, when, where and how do you want control? What is it death is stealing from you?

The intention of this class is to be a kind space where those of us who are suffering from the loss of a loved one, or any kind of lack of peace about any form of death can come to find the kindness our beliefs have been hiding from us.

  • Week 1: I am angry, saddened, disappointed with death
  • Week 2: Judge Your Neighbor Worksheet on someone who died or who you fear dying.
  • Week 3: He died and it means that…
  • Week 4: I want…
  • Week5: What do I think I would have…
  • Week 6: Regrets, Making Amends
There will be one hour of partner homework between sessions. All levels of experience with The Work are welcome. It would be very helpful to read Loving What Is by Byron Katie prior to the first class.

About the Presenter

Joy S
In 2004, my 17 year old son, Aaron, killed himself.
His death continues to be my deepest, steadfast, most compelling Teacher—beginning with the realization that since he is not here, it is impossible that he be the cause of my suffering.

Testimonials

“Joy is absolutely wonderful...very intuitive. I feel more comfortable applying The Work to my life.…putting the questions into action.”
—E.E.

“I just wanted to share my experience of doing The Work with you. When I called the helpline the way you listened to me and held that space for me I thought to myself who is this beautiful woman? …When I called I could tell how much you love doing The Work and how you have done YOUR Work which allows me to do mine. Talking to you inspired to me to be a better person for myself and for those around me as well and to hold that space for others as you did for me. You have touched my heart and are a true inspiration for me.”
—C.H.

(After doing The Work with you...) “the time with my brother was awesome. It was truly a miracle and I can't tell you how much I appreciate you! I could not seem to let myself see that truth alone. I love you!”
—K.S
